Our Interview with Jon St. John
Category: Duke Nukem
by Green, on Mon Oct 31 2011, 10:44PMQ1: How did you first get hired as the voice of Duke Nukem?
While working as the creative services director for a San Diego radio station in 1995, I met Lani Minella, a video game voice casting director, who was in my studio to record some commercial project. We started showing-off doing character voices for each other, and she asked me if I would like to audition for some video game voice work. Naturally I said yes, and Duke Nukem 3D was one of the first games that I auditioned for and booked.
Q2: Did you do any voice work for Duke Nukem Forever prior to 2009/2010?
Q10: Have you ever thought of opening an answering service?
No, but I do sell custom Duke-voiced ring tones and greating messages. Want some? www.jsjprod.com
Thanks Jon!
Only for trailer teasers and a 3D Realms Xmas party spoof video. I wasn't convinced at that time that DNF was actually even going to happen. But in November of 2009 I was contacted and told the game would in fact be finished and that it needed my VO recordings shortly thereafter.
Q3: What's the most outrageous thing that you've ever been asked to say for a Duke Nukem game?
Q3: What's the most outrageous thing that you've ever been asked to say for a Duke Nukem game?
Most everything Duke says is outrageous...how can I pick one? I outta rip out your eyeball and piss on your brain for even asking that question!
Q4: What are some recent videogames that you've provided voice work for?
Q4: What are some recent videogames that you've provided voice work for?
Jimmy Johnsons' "Anything with Wheels", "Guild Wars2", "Rochard", and a few others that I am not at liberty to mention at this time.
Q5: Have you provided voices for any 3D Realms titles other then the Duke Nukem series?
Nope.
Q6: Does Gearbox have any super secret Duke Nukem projects in development?
I think they always have secret projects in the works, but as a voice actor, I am not told about them... and when I am, I'm told to keep my mouth shut. Sorry.
Q7: What is the strangest thing you've ever been asked to say in a voice over session?
In the Duke Nukem voice I have proposed marriage to a woman on some dudes behalf. I guess he DIDN'T have the Balls of Steel for it.
Q8: What is your favorite Duke one-liner?
"I'll rip your head off and shit down your neck."
Q9: Have you completed Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem Forever?
