More 3D Realms Staff Changes

First of all, happy new year. May you all have a kickass 2007, even if your life sucks hard. We’ve got our hands on some 3D Realms and Duke Nukem Forever related information that may prove useful to all the fans. The following is not leaked data; rather, it was compiled through the efforts of an anonymous individual using the power of Google.

3D Realms employee Joe Wampole recently made alterations to his personal website and his resume in particular. The original page available here has been transformed to this. An interesting change includes the reference of "building with million+ polygonal counts" while working on DNF. Such description may indicate the presence of incredibly intricate character models in the game.

While this may come as a shock to many fans, it appears that Joe has joined his fellow colleagues in leaving the company. On the bright side, you’ll find that 3D Realms has been actively replacing its departed employees.

It has come to our attention that 3D Realms recently hired Brian Lawson as a programmer. More information is available on Lawson’s blog entry in regards to this matter.

Among other new employees is Rick Huenink, who is probably serving the position of concept artist, noting that the forum user rich1214 over at conceptart.org works for 3D Realms, and Eric "Redchurch" Von Rothkirch mentioned his company's "resident concept artist" frequenting that website..
UPDATE: It would appear that Rick is more than a concept artist. According to a post made by Joel Huenink, CEO of 4D Rulers (!), Rick is a lead designer at 3D Realms:
"My brother Rick didn't know anything until I got him into games and taught him about everything he knows... he's now lead designer at 3D Realms." (updated by yossa)

On a side note, Phil Nolan recently did an art test for 3D Realms. On his December 13th news post he mentions that “the test was quite challenging and [he] didn't get to do as much as [he] would [have] like[d], but [he] think[s] the parts [he] did looked quite good.”

Apart from that, Brian Kowalczyk might be working at 3D Realms; his website was last updated May 26th, 2006, and his resume states he has been working at the company and “dealing with all aspects of animation on a FPS game” since 2003.

Finally, Raphael Perkins has also been cited as a 3D Realms employee as of 2003. He mentions in his resume that his responsibilities in regards to DNF have been to “animate and rig characters in game, including cut scenes inside [the] game. [Also] to find [the] style of movement for different characters in [the] game.” Perkins’ website was last updated in 2004.

Update: Brian K and Raphael have both been working at Retro for several months now.

Check out George Broussard's Shacknews post here: As always, 3D Realms is still looking for employees. Gamasutra indicates that they are looking to hire an environment artist and a programmer. It's interesting to note that the job descriptions mention both the PC and the Xbox 360 development platforms. Duke Nukem Forever may very well make it as a console game after all!
