"Duke repelled an entire alien invasion, ripped of alien heads and shit down their necks, and all the while, smoking, drinking and saving babes....without Spartan armor! Advantage NUKEM! :)"

MSNBC Shrank my Balls and Crushed Them

Category: Duke3D

We came across a news item on the official 3DR site that cited a notable MSNBC article from earlier this year. The highlight of it is, Duke's Shrink Ray made it into their Top 5 list of FPS weapons.

Aliens have landed on Earth, determined to destroy all mankind. Luckily for us, Duke has an arsenal at his disposal, and he's willing to use it. Out of all the weapons available in "Duke Nukem 3D," we love the Shrink Ray the most. Not just for what it does (shrink your enemies down to a few inches in height) but for what it allows us to do afterwards (step on them like a bug). Getting to inflict a little extra insult to injury is what makes this weapon so special - because nothing humiliates a friend more than crushing them with your boot.

Wait, that's not all. A month ago, MSNBC covered the top five worst ways to die in a video game. Once again, Duke takes a piece of the cake. A Hyperactive Slob ate the other half.
It's one thing to be stomped to death, but it's another thing to be stomped to death because some guy just shrunk you to the size of a gnat with his ray gun. And that's exactly what happens in Apogee's "Duke Nukem 3D." As Duke, you use your Shrink Ray weapon to shrivel up your enemies, and once they're super small you simply step on them with your big boot. And you thought growing pains hurt!
