Duke Nukem 3D 15 years old today

Category: Duke3D

15 years ago today, Duke Nukem 3D v1.0 was uploaded to the Software Creations BBS.

Nobody knew it at the time, but on this day in 1996 first person shooters were changed forever.  Duke brought the world of FPS to a whole new level: it had jumping, ducking, swimming, flying and falling, it had maps that moved, shook, blew up and otherwise changed in any number of ways, and it had humor, attitude and atmosphere seldom seen in any game of the time period.

It was good enough that we've been waiting for a sequel since.  Hell, it even looks like we're finally getting one!  But have we forgotten Duke 3D?  No!  So, go forth and play the game that started it all today.  Buy a new copy if you have to.  Cherish how far gaming has come since then, and look forward to it happening all over again on May 3rd.

Hail to the king, baby!
