PC Gamer Podcast on DNF, Prey Demo Soon

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Wed Jun 21 2006, 05:06PM

Dan Morris and a couple of other guys from PC Gamer magazine have put up a small audio report on Duke Nukem Forever, which discusses George Broussard's refusal to accept Take 2's $500K bonus in finishing the game by December 31st of this year. This is actually not recent news, but we're covering it now because the Podcast episode concerns DNF's development progress.

My fear is that in trying to polish the game, [3D Realms] is going to miss yet another tech window... I don't know if Duke Nikem Forever will be capable of doing what, say, Crysis is capable of doing. ...They have to be less ambitious, definitely, because it's not about how great the graphics are with Duke Nukem, it's about how fun the gameplay is. ...Even the tech demo that we were run through--it had a bunch of working dialog and working site gags--they had sort of physics gags that they ran us through in the level, and it was great stuff! You know, the old voice of Duke... It was funny! I sat there and was really just transported back to 12-10 years ago when I really loved the original Duke. It was all working great. I remember thinking--OK, all you've got to do is get just twelve of these levels together. That's it, and put it out. That was a year ago. I really don't know why they are working so slow.
We'll try to remain unbiased in regards to PC Gamer's statement up there, but considering those reporters have not seen the game for over a year--rendering them unaware of its progress or engine technology--they should have no reason to lose faith now. In fact, this news item is only being covered because we felt it was important for all the Duke fans to see the stuff in bold (above). We're certain that Duke will personally pop out of the screen and give a sweet ass-kicking to all the reporters who doubted him, unless they repent for their sins immediately.

In other news, we feel obligated to inform as many people as possible in regards to the release of the Prey demo 12 AM EST this Wednesday. Because we're a DNF fan site, we try to stay on topic as much as possible, but any 3D Realms fan should be excited about game releases which involve the makers of Duke Nukem. We'll see if we can get a multiplayer Deatmatch server up and running as soon as the demo is out first on Gamespot.
