Dukeworld Archive Launched
Thus in May 2001, the glorious Dukeworld was no more, and the domain Dukeworld.com was thrown away and picked up by advertisers who had no interest in rekindling its cherished spirit. Eight years have passed since Dukeworld's demise, but through the grace of TerminX, Duke4.net has been able to bring back some of what was lost. TX has rewritten some of the Dukeworld code and used it to make available the old hosted files from the long gone website.
The archive currently contains ~9500 files from 5223 different entries (maps, mods, etc.), totaling in ~1.4 GB. More data can and will be recovered, including textual content from the original website. This will be reflected as an update to what is currently available at http://dukeworld.duke4.net. Long live Dukeworld!
New (Old) DNF Footage on Jace Hall Show
6/11 Update: Here's the newly released footage. Skip 7 minutes and 30 seconds into the video to skip the annoying bullshit that precedes the DNF content. If you live outside the US and are blocked from viewing the video, get it from here thanks to Serge. You can also view it on Youtube.
Here's a sneak peak of what's coming tomorrow.
Please be aware that this is an extension to the same footage Jace recorded circa January 2008 for his show before 3D Realms shut down DNF development; hence the "new" media not really being any more recent or relevant than what was shown initially in June 2008. The fate of the game continues to remain in the court's hands.
Keep an eye on our forums for additional updates.

Duke Goes iPhone
Shacknews got to talk with 3D Realms' CEO and founder Scott Miller, who announced that they have several titles heading for the iPhone, including three unannounced Duke titles.
More Duke to go around for you handheld-videogames fans.
We have several more iPhone games on the way, including three unannounced Duke Nukem games.

Duke4.net Expands, MUGEN Duke Debut
We'd like to announce that we've started expanding Duke4.net by hosting new Duke Nukem-based sites. You can check these out by going to the links in the "Hosted Sites" menu to the left. Furthermore, if you have a Duke Nukem website of your own, we're accepting applications for those interested in free hosting on Duke4.net. Through our collaboration with Plagman and TerminX, we hope to continue growing over the years on an infrastructure backed by non-centralized management, which essentially means that we're immortal.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been so generous (and continues to be generous) by participating in our Duke Nukem affiliation program with GoG. If you've missed out on buying Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem Manhattan Project for cheap, with full XP and Vista compatilbity without compatiblity or copyright hassles, make sure you check out the program.
The next order of business involves ass-kickiing on a whole new platform (pun intended). M.U.G.E.N. is a freeware 2D fighting game engine designed by Elecbyte, which modders have employed in order to enable players to control a Duke Nukem character in a custom fighting game on PC. You can read a review of the Duke Nukem mod by clicking "more info" on the right panel for this Youtube video. The review also contains external links for downloading and getting more information on the Duke Nukem modification for MUGEN.
Additionally, for a more exciting look at this fan creation, we recommend you check out the debut video below:
Here is another cool video from the game. Enjoy! Thanks to Lord Misfit for originally posting this on our forums.
DNF Cards & Chips
Mark passed this along to us today:
With the demise of Duke Forever I dug them out and took this pic. Thought Duke4.net readers would enjoy it.
I wonder how much I could get for them on ebay now. All in MINT Condition.
Thanks Mark!
Good Old Games & Duke4.net Sponsorship
Remember our last news item about GoG? We just love these guys, because now they're sponsoring us EVERY time you buy their products through clicking their banners on our website. So if you love Duke games and you love Duke4.net, here's your chance to show it. But wait, that's not all. Purchasing classic games from GoG means you don't have to deal with DRM shit like Securom or Safedisk, and you get full XP and Vista compability with everything you download.
Still, that's NOT all! GoG's celebrating Duke Nukem THIS week with a week long promotion on a Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem Manhattan Project bundle. Everyone will be able to get those two games 25% cheaper (instead paying $11.98 for two games, you will pay $8.98). And if you already own one of the games from the pack, you will receive a $1.50 discount on the second one. To receive the discount you have to buy both games in one order.
Many of you will be looking to buy these game ANYWAY--so why not support Duke4.net by buying them through us? Just give our banners a click and you'll be on your way to saving money, avoiding annoying-ass digital rights management protections, and doing away with asinine incompatibility issues present when you buy these games from other sources. Oh yeah, and if you do it this week, you save 25%.
Duketalk, Grabbag, DNF Review!
We have several news items to present today, and there's more to come over the next few weeks. There's just been LOTS of shit happening in the background with our website, and the future ahead for us is so bright that I was blinded for a second.
First up, we asked Clint to loan us his vocal talent once more to create a sound pack for use with the Duke3D HRP in the future. Well, while we're not so sure if the HRP folks will embrace the idea, the awesome developer(s) behind Duke Plus might want to pick it up. If not, we're still sharing the soundpack here because Clint put good effort towards it, and replicating Jon St. John in high definition is cool.
Polymer HD Trailer
BEHOLD!
I spent a long time creating this trailer, and hope you will all enjoy it! Thanks to Plagman for developing the amazing Polymer renderer, and thanks to TerminX for creating EDuke32 and giving me feedback on the development of this trailer. Thanks to Clint "phreakindee" Basinger for providing his vocal talent. Big thanks to all the people who worked on the HRP. Last but not least, thanks to Megatron for the fantastic Grabbag soundtrack.
Free Hosting for Duke Sites
Hey guys, we've decided to go ahead with our plan to offer hosted sites here on Duke4. This is a step towards having another sort of Duke megacenter as Dukeworld was back in the late 90s. What we're going to do now is start accepting applications for hosting, and as soon as we get 10 or so that we want to go through with I'll set everything up and you guys can start hosting your content here instead of having to find your own hosting somewhere else.
As for the hosting capabilities:
- No bandwidth limits
- No real disk space limits (though if you start taking up enough that I actually notice it, expect me to be looking)
- Offers the latest versions of Apache, PHP, MySQL, et cetera
- FTP access
- Everything will be personally managed by me on service graciously donated by Plagman
- Free to all sites pertaining to Duke or Build
Applications for hosting as well as questions and comments will be taken in this thread. Please don't apply unless you're going to have at least some sort of a site ready to go by the time we get 10 applications. People who are currently on PlanetDuke or other free hosting are especially encouraged to apply, because, well, our hosting is going to be better.
3DR Seeking Partner to Finish DNF?
Granted there's a lawsuit that might not be settled for another year, and that no company has been eager to fund 3D Realms, take the following news with more than a grain of salt so it won't leave a bad taste of (bull)shit in your mouth.
