Duke Nukem's Disease

Category: Duke Nukem
by RedSplat, on Thu Jul 02 2009, 04:57PM

A rare medical condition known as Duke Nukem's Disease is gaining global attention. It may not be swine flu, but the symptoms of the disease can be intense, potentially life threatening.
Some poor people on our very own forums suffer from this horrible disease.

YANG 0.48 released

Category: Duke3D
by TX, on Sun Jun 28 2009, 11:15PM

From the things-easily-overlooked department, it looks like YANG has been updated, bringing the current version to 0.48.  Looking for a Dukematch?  Download today and start fragging!

For those unfamiliar with YANG, here's the gist of it: it's a multiplayer matchmaking client for Duke that handles the more annoying aspects of multiplayer, namely finding an opponent, setting up the game and getting everything running, and it's got a simple interface that makes it easy for just about anyone to use it.

We like it so much, we're even hosting the site!

Wanna play but don't have Duke?  Pick up a copy now and join the action!

Duke Begins...

Category: DNF
by RedSplat, on Mon Jun 22 2009, 05:20PM

I saw the title "Duke Begins" in the lawsuit crap, and felt the uncontrollable urge to edit this "Batman Begins" movie poster. It turned out pretty cool, wallpaper sized.

3DR responds to lawsuit

Category: DNF
by Micki!, on Mon Jun 22 2009, 04:23PM

GamePolitics.com reports about newly obtained court documents revealing more about the case between Take2 and 3D Realms.
We previously told you about the lawsuit that Take Two filed against 3D Realms. Now 3D Realms has responded with its own filing to the court.

On October 22, 2007, Apogee, Take-Two, and 2K Games entered into an agreement in which Apogee granted 2K Games the exclusive right to develop and publish a new videogame based upon Apogee's Duke Nukem franchise... The new game was given the working title of "Duke Begins" and is not the same game as the DNF game...

The original development schedule for the Duke Begins game provided that the game was to be completed and commercially released by mid-2010...

Take Two and/or its subsidiary 2K Games halted or otherwise cancelled all development work by the third-party game developer on the Duke Begins game in April 2009... without Apogee's approval or consent...

When Apogee confronted Take-Two and 2K Games about the... cancellation of the Duke Begins development work... Take-Two and 2K Games simply denied it... Take-Two and 2K Games are taking such actions with a goal of pressuring Apogee to sell the Duke Nukem franchise rights to Take-Two for less than their true value.

The Documents themselves are available here For everyone to read.

As the documents suggest, "Duke Begins" might very well the unannounced Project 3D Realms mentioned in thier press release which you can check here over at Shacknews

Duke Nukem 3D wins "best toilets" award!

Category: Duke3D
by Eclipse, on Fri Jun 19 2009, 09:18PM

After a mention in a Crispy Gamer article earlier this year, the venerable water closets of Duke Nukem 3D have landed themselves another award.  This time, they've earned top place in a rundown of the Top Five Toilets in Gaming History by the 8 Bit Pwny Club, a new cartoon from that clever chap Weebl.

As well as pinning down exactly what makes Duke 3D's commodes the best in-game conveniences around, the toon also offers an explanation of why Duke Nukem Forever has taken so long to develop! Check out the cartoon here.

Super Cool Duke3D Beta Review!

Category: Duke3D
by Yatta, on Thu Jun 18 2009, 03:17AM

Check out Hendricks' Duke3D beta page for a blast from the past.  Make sure you visit the Duke3D beta art and sounds pages too.

The Duke Nukem 3D v0.9 beta is an early look at the shareware version of the game. It was leaked from a magazine previewer named Jim. You can see a message from George in an included text file. After this version was leaked, it is safe to say 3D Realms hasn't been sending out beta versions of games to magazines. There are some minor differences in this version, such as the message that rises up on the building in the E1L2 is different.

You can download the beta there as well.

PS. My fellow admins will be keeping you guys updated on Duke news for the next two weeks, as I willl be in Europe from June 18th to July 6th; I'll return to the website when I'm back in the United States.  Thanks for being amazing fans!

3D Realms Allegedly Hiding Money Offshore

Category: 3D Realms
by Yatta, on Mon Jun 15 2009, 11:54PM

The plot thickens:

In terms of compensation, Take-Two believes it is "entitled to an award of damages equal to...lost profits caused by Apogee's failure to timely develop and deliver" Duke Nukem Forever PC, "an award of damages equal to the DNF Advances with accured interest," and the incomplete source code.

3D Realms received two advances for Duke Nukem Forever: $400,000 from former publisher GT Interactive in 1998--a debt Take-Two assumed when it acquired DNF publishing rights--and $2.5 million from Take-Two Interactive in 2008.

That second advance was provided with the stipulation of "7% per annum" interest after September 2009, and an agreement that the sum would "become immediately due" if Duke Nukem Forever was not released by October 22, 2012.

Perhaps most shockingly, Take-Two claims that "upon information and belief, [3D Realms/Apogee Ltd.] has title to a substantial amount of funds deposited in an off-shore account, which Take-Two believes Apogee can use to fund its outstanding obligations."

The Wild Ride

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Sat Jun 13 2009, 05:32PM

Former art director at 3D Realms, Tramell Isaac, has started writing interesting DNF stories on his blog.

Too many people have asked me.."What Happened?". My response is, I'm not really sure it matters at this point. People have been contacting me to get the dirt on 3dr etc. etc. I'm not about to dish dirt, because, there is no dirt to dish.

Here's Part 1.  More is coming!  Thanks for the heads up, Angelo86.

Update: Check Tramell's blog for part 2 and on.
