Duke Nukem Movie Interview

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Fri Sep 26 2008, 11:45PM

GameCyte has interviewed 3D Realms' Scott Miller in regards to the Duke Nukem movie.  Since the movie will be produced by the same people who worked on the Max Payne movie, the interview also talks about lead star Mark Walberg's possible return for sequels.

More interestingly, however, Scott talks about Duke Nukem Forever's story direction and character development, as well as the Duke Nukem movie itself.  Here's a snippet:

So, by building a storyverse for Duke Nukem, we’re bringing that franchise into modern times. A lot of this is going to be seen in Duke Nukem Forever, because we have several key characters besides Duke, including Bombshell and General Graves. And Duke’s personality and history will be more prominent in the game.

The bottom line is that Duke Nukem was created before we had the storyverse idea nailed down. Max Payne was our first game that was purposely built as a storyverse — in large part as a result of the lessons we learned from making Duke Nukem 3D. So, while Duke comes across as a little shallow now, that’s only because we haven’t released a modern day product that fleshes things out like in recent games.

George Broussard on Twitter

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Fri Sep 19 2008, 03:46AM

George recently posted this tease on the 3D Realms forums in the DNF section:

mushroom_twitter_thumb.jpg

So, Twitter. I may start using this thing for small random dev updates or whatever. Not sure how regular they'd be, bu we'll see how it goes. With an iPhone and some cool apps like Twitteriffic or Twittelator it's pretty trivial to take a pic with the iPhone and update it to Twitter.

So, if you're into Twitter, follow GeorgeB3DR and we'll see what happens.

www.twitter.com/georgeb3dr

...Because the point is just to let people know about it and this forum gets a lot of traffic, and also that DNF is an upcoming product that may see updates on Twitter. It's really pretty simple as to why post it here.

Who remembers .plan files?  Smells like the same shit to me--oh you TEASE, Georgieboy!

Now Hustling DNMP Files

Category: Site News
by Yatta, on Wed Sep 10 2008, 11:43PM

We just opened a Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project section on our downloads page. What does this mean for you?

1. You can e-mail yatta@duke4.net or yatta@duke4.org any Duke Nukem related file (in any format!) that you'd like hosted on our website, as long as it's a professional project and doesn't suck ass.

2. We're big fans of DNMP and always will be.

3. You should really check out our downloads section if you already haven't. There's a lot of cool shit on there, including fan-made covers of Grabbag and game utilities.

We'd also like to this this opportunity to thank Plagman for making it possible for us to add a second download mirror to our website (duke4.org). Damn that's sexy.

Duke Nukem Movie in the Works

Category: Duke Nukem
by Yatta, on Mon Sep 08 2008, 09:45PM

Kotaku reports:

Hollywood producer Scott Faye, who’s readying Max Payne for its October 17th release, is working with 3D Realms’ Scott Miller on a Duke Nukem movie.

“I'm working diligently at making a Duke Nukem movie scenario that will live up to the character and its import in the videogame world,” said Faye. “As is the case with all of my game adaptations, I'd rather not make the movie than make a poor adaptation.”

"DNF Should Be Our Next Release"

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Mon Sep 08 2008, 09:00PM

There's a shitload of Duke3D XBLA previews and interviews all over the net. To add to this load, play.tm played their part, but also bothered to ask George about DNF. Check it:

On another Duke-related topic, how is Duke Nukem Forever progressing - will this long-awaited FPS title be 3D Realms' next release following DN3D on the XBLA?

GB: DNF should be our next release, but I've learned my lesson on that [smiley]. The game is going well and you can play a lot of it, and we're just trying to finish it.

Do you view this release as a something of test to see whether the world is still receptive to the Duke's charms, with Duke Nukem Forever in mind?

GB: Not really. We just thought it was a good idea and a very viable project for Xbox Live Arcade. Classic movies live on for decades but it's harder for games to do that due to constant platform changes. Doing an updated version like this allows new fans to experience the game as well as providing an opportunity for old fans to revisit it again.
