3D Realms Hiring Again!

Category: 3D Realms
by yossa, on Wed May 03 2006, 09:11AM

According to this George Broussard's post on Shacknews:

Call for developers.

I know lots of developers troll Shacknews (local and not), and there are also lots of non-pros that are talented and looking to get into games.

We're pretty much staffing up in all areas (level design, programming, engine/rendering, modeling, etc). So if you're interested, in any position, send me a resume or portfolio at: georgeb@3drealms.com

Just put up a programmer ad on Gamasutra, and will be putting up more ads soon.
And here's the Gamasutra ad, saved on a different server, so that you don't have to register there: 3D Realms "Programmer"UPDATE (06.03.2006): The ad on gamasutra has been reposted a couple of days ago. 3D Realms is still looking then...

Revelations of a Gamer

Category: Site News
by Orochi Avlis, on Fri Apr 28 2006, 12:34PM

Not meaning to toot my own horn here, but I wrote a brief article about something that clicked within me one day. I hope you find it an interesting read and maybe get something out of it. Here's an excerpt:

We waste our energies worrying about how some moron is going to screw it up for us. And vice versa. I mean freaking out over a freaking sex scene in a game that minor should not have in the first place, is just pointless. Is that really going to make society better? To "protect" children from the harsh world? To play ignorant over issues that affect the day-to-day lives of everybody? If you ignore it, that means it doesn't exist, thus making your own little world better, while others crumble at their feet.
You can find it in the Article section under the title "Revelations of a Gamer". And here's the link for you lazy people. Any comments and critiques are welcomed.

New Fan Song - Ain't No Use to Wait Forever

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Tue Apr 25 2006, 12:42AM

We've got a new MP3 in the Fan Songs/Remixes section of our website today. Duke Nukem fan Linus "Thriller" Jonsson has written a song about DNF entitled Ain't No Use to Wait Forever. He plays the guitar himself, and uses melody from Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice, It's Alright to create the kick-ass musical composition you see before you. Enjoy!

Download Linus Jonsson - Ain't No Use to Wait Forever (2.53 MB)
Thriller told me he's not used to sing in English, but I personally think the vocals are very well rendered.

Duke Nukem sheds light on brain

Category: Duke Nukem
by Yatta, on Tue Apr 18 2006, 09:47PM

A group of Belgian scientists has studied the human brain using in-house Duke Nukem 3D levels to show how sleep affects long-term memory. Here's a snippet from the article:

The Belgian team used MRI scans to see how volunteers stored spatial information from the game.

Sleep-deprived gamers recalled information from a different part of the brain to those who slept.

Poll Update

Category: Site News
by Yatta, on Mon Apr 17 2006, 07:18AM

We're not dead. In fact, I have been quite active in the past week, but there was little interesting news to report to the Duke Nukem community. While we look for new ways to maintain our growing 500-1000 daily unique visitors, the website poll has been updated for your... err, amusement (or lack thereof). In actuality, it took me 17 days to think of a good April fools joke that wouldn't concern fake DNF screenshots/release dates.

Poll results from previous survey - Are you upgrading for DNF? (605 votes):

Yes!

No.

Undecided.

The Duke and I

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Wed Mar 29 2006, 11:56PM

The May 2006 issue of Computer Games Magazine has a brief coverage on Duke Nukem Forever, entitled "The Duke and I." As mentioned on the 3D Realms website, here are some quotes from George Broussard in the article:

3D Realms' trademark sense of humor is still intact. "Duke is a man's man. He drinks He smokes. He enjoys women. Every other game that comes out is World War II or dead serious. Duke is about being the ultimate alien ass kicker".

"We've been tech complete for a year. The last year has been making the game, putting the pieces together."

Thanks to crunchy superman for providing us with the scans. The release status for DNF is still "When it's done," but we've got our hopes up!

by yossa, on Sun Mar 26 2006, 04:03PM

Do you think you can guess when DNF is going to be released?

The information is sparse, the speculation is high and everybody seems to have their opinion as to when we'll finally see the game.

This simple website will allow you to enter your guess:

DNF to get Sequel -- Scott Miller Interview

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Wed Mar 22 2006, 12:11AM

Our very own Kaisersoze was kind enough to give us a heads up in regards to FiringSquad interviewing 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller. This is great news, great news indeed. We now have official confirmation that Duke Nukem Forever won't be the last game in the series, following George Broussard's own statement on the 3D Realms forums a while back.

Scott also hinted that 3D Realms may be appearing at E3 this year to show off either Prey or DNF. Among other things, it is mentioned that the Duke Nukem movie will be put off until after Duke 4 is released. Scott also talks about Windows Vista and next generation consoles including the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Revolution.

A Compilation of DNF Info

Category: DNF
by Yatta, on Sun Mar 19 2006, 09:10AM

3D Realms forum user ticknswisted has put together a list of questions and answers with George Broussard ranging from 2005 to 2006. If you ever missed DNF quotes from George, here's your chance to catch up on updates that may have escaped your ears. The list of excerpts has been categorized into chronological orders of Technical Information, Gameplay, and Miscellaneous. The author has included the following statement in his post:

This is a compiled list of some of the things that George has responded to, I've put them in somewhat of an easy read order and modified some of the questions for the same reasons. A lot of this stuff isn't accessible anywhere else as far as FAQs so I thought I'd just compile my own nice list (which may be wrong, outdated, or incorrect).
Without further adieu, head over to our newly established content page on GB's DNF Quotes. Thanks again to ticknswisted for his hard work in gathering this information!
